Johor monitors contractors [ 16/12/2002 ]
MUAR, Dec 15: Contractors in Johor who fail to complete State Government projects on time will be blacklisted while those with good track records will get more.

Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the State Government has compiled a track record of contractors working on its projects to evaluate their performance and reliability to prevent them from taking on more than they could handle and later sub-contracting out some of the projects. This trend, Ghani said, defeated the State Government's objective of completing projects on time and should therefore be stopped.

"We are monitoring contractors to ensure they perform within the time frame allotted for the contracts. Contractors should not acquire more projects when they are unable to deliver as scheduled. This will only compel them to sub-contract the projects for additional profit." Ghani said this after visiting the site of a proposed multi-purpose community hall at Bukit Gambir here last night.

He said the State Government continually encouraged F-category contractors to apply for Government project tenders which they feel they are able to manage on their own.

He said the majority of the projects such as the construction of surau, community halls and roads had benefited contractors in this category as it was pointless to acquire extra projects when they are unable to deliver on schedule.

"The State Government had spent more than RMl00 million in the past three months on projects below RM200,000 in all districts," he said.
